A FERNDOWN road was closed this morning after emergency works took place to fix a gas leak.

This comes after engineers for SGN have said they have been investigating a gas leak in Linden Road, West Parley Ferndown since April 23 and have now identified the source of the leak.

There were severe delays to motorists whilst the road was closed by police.

The work is set to finish on May 29 with repairs carried out to a low-pressure gas main at the junction of Linden and Dudsbury Road which has led to the junction being closed and temporary traffic lights put in place.

Waseem Hanif, spokesperson for gas distribution company SGN said: “Earlier today, we attended a gas leak in Golf Links Road, Ferndown, in our capacity as the region's gas emergency service.

“The road was closed for safety while our team carried out safety checks and made it safe, following third-party damage to a gas service pipe.

“The road has now been reopened, although temporary traffic lights that were in place before our arrival are back in operation.

“Our team will remain on-site to complete the replacement of the gas service.”

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We received a report at 10.15am of a gas leak in Golf Links Road in Ferndown.

“Officers attended to assist with putting in road closures and these were left in the control of the gas company.”
