A NEW supermarket offering foods from around the world has hit the high street.
Founded in 1976, Makkah Foods offers an ethnic supermarket that is ‘committed to providing customers with the freshest, highest quality food products and groceries.’
Usman and Tariq Khan own several Makkah Foods stores in Dorset, with this being their largest to date.
As well as supermarkets, the family-oriented company also boasts their title of a ‘leading wholesaler in the region of Dorset.
Customers can expect to see a range of products at the new store, including a halal pick and mix and perfume counter, sourced straight from Dubai.
The new Parkstone supermarket hopes to bring more variety as it offers ‘food from every corner of the world’.
Co-owner Usman said: “I think it will bring a better choice to customers and a more exciting shopping experience compared to being in a boring conventional supermarket.
“And the general aesthetics when you walk in, it's different to every other shop that we've seen.
“There's also literally no stone unturned in terms of where we source products from.
“Having this shop has unlocked the doors to lots of other suppliers for us as well, which we couldn't buy from before because there's minimal space in our smaller stores.
The new supermarket boasts a charcuterie and deli counter along with food originally sold in Co-op to make the transition easier for customers.
‘We’re excited to see what this new shop will bring, the proof will be in the pudding.”
Speaking on the closure of the smaller Parkstone business just a few shops down, Tariq added: “We’re really sad the old shop is losing, it’s definitely an end of an era but the start of something new and exciting.”
“This new adventure will be great for us and everyone is welcome to help us succeed at this new store.
“So come and have a browse.”
The new supermarket will be open from 8am – 10pm seven days a week.
The new store can be found on Ashley Road in Parkstone.
