A MAN in his 40s has died after being struck by a train in Dorset. 

The railway line was temporarily closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

The incident occurred on May 26 between Poole and Wareham. 

At the time of the incident, a spokesperson for South Western Railway said: "We have received reports that a person has been struck by a train between Wareham and Poole.

"Our response teams are working with the emergency services to assist with the incident.

"To allow emergency services access to the railway, all power to the track will need to be switched off in the affected area."

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Holton Heath railway station at around 3.29pm on Sunday (26 May) following reports of a casualty on the tracks."

Paramedics also attended, however a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
