A HALL that was built to remember those who died in World War One was broken into in a ‘despicable and reckless’ act.

Between 6.30pm on Saturday, May 25 and 2.30pm on Sunday, May 26, entry was gained to West Parley Memorial Hall in Christchurch Road.

Furnishings and fire extinguishers in the building were damaged in the incident.

Now, officers investigating the burglary are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police constable Tom Harness, of Dorset Police, said: “This was a despicable and reckless act on a building that was built in memorial to those who gave their lives in World War I.

“We are doing all we can to identify who was responsible for gaining entry to this building that is well-loved by the local community.

“I would like to make a direct appeal to the offenders to do the right thing and come forward.

“Also, I am keen to hear from any witnesses who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the area.”
