THE inquest into the death of a woman who was fatally stabbed on Durley Chine beach has opened.

Amie Louise Gray, 34, died of multiple stab wounds, the inquest heard.

Senior coroner for Dorset, Rachael Griffin, opened the inquest at Bournemouth civic centre on Wednesday, May 29.

Coroner’s officer Grace Monro told the hearing that Dorset Police were called to Durley Chine beach at 11.42pm on Friday, May 24.

After emergency services attended, Ms Gray was pronounced dead at the scene at 00.24am on Saturday, May 25.

She was identified by family liaison officer Florence Winstanley, through a comparison with a photo provided by Ms Gray’s family.

A post-mortem examination was carried out by Dr Purdue at Holly Tree Lodge, with the cause of death provided as multiple stab wounds.

The inquest heard that Ms Gray was born in Bournemouth in July 1989, and was a postal worker.

She was living in Parkstone in Poole at the time of her death.

Ms Griffin was told of the ongoing criminal investigation, and she requested an update from Dorset Police ‘at the earliest opportunity’.

She did not request anything further at this stage.

The inquest was adjourned, to be resumed with a pre-inquest review on December 11 at 2pm.

As reported, a 38-year-old woman also from Poole suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Dorset Police confirmed yesterday, May 28, that she was still receiving treatment in hospital.

A 20-year-old man from Croydon in London was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Detective superintendent Richard Dixey, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said yesterday: “We are continuing to update the loved ones of the woman who tragically died, as well as the victim in hospital, with all the latest developments and our thoughts remain with them.

“I would like to thank everyone so far who has provided information and reiterate my appeal for any witnesses who have not already come forward to please contact Dorset Police.”
