SEVEN olive trees that were sponsored by the Beales department store when they were planted have been removed and replanted by the council.

BCP Council removed the trees from the planters in Beale Place, outside the now vacant store, with the trees replanted elsewhere to ‘rejuvenate’.

Flowers and plants have now been planted in the empty planters.

Councillor Andy Hadley, portfolio holder for climate response, environment and energy at BCP Council, said: “As part of a scheme to overhaul the planters in Bournemouth town centre, our team have removed the olive trees and replanted the containers with new plants which are better suited to the size of pot.

“The olive trees have been replanted elsewhere to give them the chance to rejuvenate and will be used in other planting schemes.”

The trees were planted in 2019, when Old Christchurch Road and the town centre was pedestrianised.
