MUDEFORD RNLI was called to help a swimmer who was struggling to get back to shore off Avon beach.

A crew from Mudeford RNLI were called out on June 1 at around 11.10am to rescue the man.

On scene at 11.22am, the casualty had managed to recover back to shore but the lifeboat remained on scene due to the swimmer requiring medical treatment.

An ambulance was called to the scene and arrived at 11.35am with paramedics giving further assistance.

Mudeford RNLI volunteer Graeme Staddon said: "At this time of year, we see more people in the water as the weather improves.

"The local area has many hidden currents and strong tidal flows. Where possible always swim at a lifeguarded beach and stay close to shore and always seek local advice on currents and tides.

"This is a good example of how the RNLI works with HM Coastguard and the emergency services to come to the aid of people in difficulty in the water and we are pleased the casualty is safe and well."

The lifeboat was stood down at 11.46am and returned to the station.

The Mudeford Servant Atlantic 85 lifeboat has launched 28 times this and launched 85 times in 2023.
