ALUN Jones certainly had a trip to remember after fishing over a rough ground mark in Christchurch Bay where he apprehended a huge bass, which tipped the scales down to 15-8.
Jones, from Christchurch, free-lined a whole mackerel on light tackle to tempt the predator which gave a really good account of itself.
It was probably around 20 years old. After weighing and photographing it was returned alive.
MARTIN'S BEST RETURN
Some excellent bass have been recorded from the Milford Shingle Bank and Hurst Castle with Martin Wells recording the best bass which tipped the scales down to 10-3.
Wells, a 46-year-old engineer, caught the large predator from the sandbar along the front of the castle while using a whole mackerel for bait during an all night session.
The hefty specimen, which sets a new personal best, was caught on a light rod and small fixed-spool reel loaded with just 12lb line. After weighing it was returned alive.
