ANOTHER Bournemouth hotel – which once had lickable walls - has been put on the market.

The Chocolate Box – the 13-bedroom hotel that once had a Willy Wonka inspired room – has been listed for £1.2m.

Marketed by Goadsby, the West Cliff Road hotel is the second big hotel in recent months to be put up for sale.

Hotel Celebrity in Gervis Road was put up for sale earlier this year following the cancer diagnosis of owner Ken Robbins.

Bournemouth-based Goadsby said The Chocolate Box is in a “prime front line trading location” with a “distinctive” chocolate theme to it.

The building comes with 13 letting bedrooms, including 12 en-suites and one private facility, a reception office, residents’ lounge, cafe, breakfast room and a kitchen.

Goadsby said: “Run single-handedly, we are informed to the year ended 2022 a turnover of £261,230 was recorded yielding an EBITDA figure of £101,608.

“It is felt the non-resident trade could be increased with a more active approach. We have not had sight of accounting information to verify this.”

In 2021, The Chocolate Box teamed up with booking site LateRooms to create a Willy Wonka inspired room to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1971 film.

Priced at £200 per night for the room, it was made for singles or couples and came with the option for a chocolate bath for £150.

It also had lickable wallpaper with a range of flavours, the chocolate fountain with dipping fruit and marshmallows, jars of gobstoppers, gumballs, chocolates and plenty of sweets.

Even the key card for the room was a golden ticket.

Hotels in Bournemouth have been going through notable change in recent months, with numerous closures, sales but also some investment.

Administrators were called in to sort out the finances of The Queens Hotel & Spa in Meyrick Road and the Trouville Hotel in Priory Road closed owing more than £900k, although it has since reopened.

Meanwhile, the Royal Bath Hotel is undergoing a major £1m plus refurbishment and the Norfolk Royale Hotel in Richmond Hill is also having 30 new bedrooms built costing £1.2m

The Chocolate Box Hotel has been approached for a comment.
