A BOURNEMOUTH man who went on a violent rampage in Ringwood has been put behind bars.
Jordan Ashley Burnell, of Cecil Road, Boscombe, punched a Tesco worker, head-butted a bakery window and damaged another when being arrested on the evening of January 8.
The 28-year-old entered Tesco in Butlers Lane, Poulner, at around 8.10pm that day and attempted to steal two bottles of wine.
However, when challenged by a staff member, he then assaulted them by pushing and punching, a court heard.
Following this, Burnell head-butted and damaged a window at Belinda’s Bakery, before then head-butting and damaging another window while attempting to resist arrest, this time at Wine Box.
Burnell, who pleaded guilty to the offences of assault, shoplifting and two counts of criminal damage, appeared before magistrates in Southampton on Friday, June 7.
He was jailed for five weeks and has been instructed to pay £50 in compensation.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said: “If you are a shop owner or staff member, please continue to report any assaults, shopliftings or criminal damage to us.
“As this again highlights, we can take action, but only if incidents are reported to us.
“You can reports incidents to us by calling 101, or by reporting online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website.”
