A CANCER charity is encouraging people to sign up for an annual bike ride during National Bike Week.

The Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride takes place on Sunday, July 7, and the charity called on people to get back on the bike this week, National Bike Week, which runs until June 16.

The annual ride supports the charity and people living with cancer.

One family that has signed up for the ride is the Jenkins family from Poole, with three generations set to take on the challenge.

Jenkins Marine company director and keen cyclist Dan Jenkins will ride with twin sons Jasper and Joseph, while dad Rodney will support eh team of volunteers.

Ride organiser Peter Smith-Nicholls said: “We are really grateful to Jenkins Marine in becoming an addition sponsor this support means we can cover our costs and make sure all the money raised by the cyclists can go to where it is really needed.”

The ride offers three courses of 38, 48 and 63 miles in the Dorset countryside.

It is fully supported by volunteers, with refreshment stops, bike mechanics and a post-ride physio.
