THE Echo has teamed up with Transdev Yellow Buses to get more people travelling on buses - and raise money for local good causes.

The Carbon Stoppers initative is a way of rewarding bus travellers by putting something back into the community. And Echo readers will be directly involved in choosing which project or good cause benefits.

Every Thursday Transdev Yellow Buses will donate 1p for every passenger trip on its services.

The cash will go into a "Community Chest", with funds available to schools, community groups and good causes.

The bus company has pledged a minimum of £50 a week to the fund for the next year.

Daily Echo readers are invited to nominate a worthy cause or charity to benefit from the Community Chest.

The scheme will be promoted on Yellow Buses, which are used by more than 12 million passengers per year, and on the company's website.

Jenni Wilkinson, Transdev Yellow Buses head of marketing, said: "Carbon Stoppers is not anti-car or asking people to give up their vehicles.

"Instead it is aimed at reducing congestion, improving the environment and mostly importantly, benefiting the people living in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch."

Daily Echo editor Neal Butterworth said: "We are very pleased to be involved in this worthwhile initiative.

"The campaign tries to encourage people to use the buses - and the more people use the buses the more money this fund gets.

"We are delighted to be part of the campaign and hope we can raise as much money as possible for local good causes."
