A HGV driver who sent a person flying backwards by driving a lorry at them has avoided jail. 

Martyn Clark, 41, was given a 30-week prison sentence for dangerous driving - but suspended for 12 months at Southampton Crown Court. 

It follows an incident on September 22, 2023, when he drove a Scania lorry towards a member of the public following a row.

The incident took place on the A337 - Christchurch Road - in New Milton.

On Tuesday, June 25, he was also banned from driving for 15 months and ordered to pay £500 compensation and £750 court costs.

Clark is registered at Companies House as the director of Claybank Transport Services Ltd, registered at Sherfield English near Romsey.

He is also the director of Clarks Caravan and Boat Haulage Ltd, registered in Chichester.

The court was previously persuaded to delay disqualifying Clark as employees that work for his company may have lost their jobs.

Mitigating, Emily Lanham previously said her client planned to hand over control of the business or sell it ahead of his sentencing.

Clark pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at a previous hearing.

Clark, of Bishopsfield Road, Fareham must also complete 100 hours of unpaid work and a mandatory re-test before he gets his licence back.
