BOURNEMOUTH'S Pier to Pier Swim route will be changed due to unforeseen weather conditions.
Originally meant to start from Boscombe Pier, organisers of the Bournemouth Pier to Pier Swim have decided the event will now begin from Bournemouth on Saturday, June 29 due to unforeseen weather conditions.
While meant to be 22 degrees and sunny with partial clouds, the wave energy has been the main reason for the change.
A spokesperson for British Heart Foundation (BHF) said: "After consulting with our water safety team on the weather conditions for Saturday we have made the decision to flip the route.
"The swim direction will now be starting from Bournemouth Pier and ending at Boscombe Pier, aligning with the wave energy."
The change has meant the swim has returned to its original route which was due to be changed this year for the first time.
A total of 1,200 swimmers will swim 1.4 miles between the two piers to help fund lifesaving research for the British Heart Foundation and is known as one of the largest open-water swimming events in Europe.
The event is due to start 2pm with the first swimmer expected to cross the line at 2.30pm.
Over the last decade, the event has raised £2.2 million for BHF.
