A COUNTRY park in Dorset has made the ‘tough decision’ to cancel one of its Christmas events this year.
Santa Specials will no longer be taking place at the Moors Valley Country Park railway this Christmas.
The event has been cancelled to allow Dorset Council to carry out repair works at the railway, beginning in autumn and continuing through winter.
The works include a roof replacement across the main station, engine sheds, carriage sheds and shop, including Santa's grotto, along with some building restoration.
Moors Valley Railway wrote on social media: “The tough decision to take a brief pause on the Santa Special event will help ensure the longevity of Moors Valley Railway, enabling generations to come to continue to enjoy the charm and nostalgia of our steam railway.
"This decision has not been taken lightly, and we are desperately disappointed not to be able to welcome you all to Santa's Grotto this year.
"The decision is however driven by the commitment of preserving the unique and special attraction of the narrow gauge railway, and the joy it brings over the Christmas period, and all year round.
"We look forward to welcoming families back to the Santa Specials in 2025 for an even more magical experience."
