RESIDENTS near Bournemouth Gardens awoke to ‘the crackle of wood burning’ after a shed fire erupted in the night.

Firefighters tackled a shed fire earlier this morning.

A resident in the area described the scene: “We live next to the tennis court and were awoken by the crackle of wood burning.”

A spokesperson for DWFRS said: “We were called to a block of flats in Surrey Road, Bournemouth at 2.04am this morning. Two crews attended, from Westbourne and Springbourne, to deal with a shed fire.

“One hose reel jet and one main jet were used, and the stop was at 2.50am. We believe the fire to be suspicious and the police were in attendance when we left.”

A spokesperson for Dorset Police: “We received a report at 2.29am of a fire at an outbuilding in Surrey Road in Bournemouth.

“Officers attended and the fire had been extinguished.

“The cause of the fire was reported to be suspicious.

“Enquiries are being carried out. No arrests have been made.”
