A DRIVER had a lucky escape after his car crashed through the railings of a railway line and landed on the track.
The incident happened at 6.40am yesterday (Sunday) at Wool level crossing near Wareham between the Ship Inn and the old police station.
A member of public told police the driver of the car had got out of the vehicle and run towards the signal box.
Dorset Police immediately advised Network Rail emergency services of the incident and they turned the power off both lines.
When police officers arrived at the scene they discovered a silver BMW car, registered to a man from Axminster in Devon, was completely over one of the railway lines.
The driver was uninjured and the vehicle was recovered at 8.44am.
Network Rail checked the line before allowing trains to use the track.
