FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a heathland blaze in Wimborne which has caused smoke to blow across the A31.
The fire service were called to Cannon Hill Plantation at 5.29pm on July 4 after report of a heath fire.
There are currently six pumping appliances in attendance alongside one water carrier, three land rovers and four officers.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews are working to sectionize the area.
Firefighters are using two main hose reel jets, beaters and backpacks.
The fire service shared on social media: “For information we are dealing with an incident at Cannon Hill Plantation which is emitting a lot of smoke across the A31 in the Colehill area of Dorset.
“Please take care if driving in this location or avoid the area if you can.”
It is understood that the smoke is blowing in an easterly direction and it is expected that the fire service will be on the scene for some time.
