PREPARATIONS are well underway for what is set to be a record-breaking Sandpolo event this weekend.

Set up of the site for the popular Sandbanks event is going at full steam ahead of the event and Sandfest, which take place between Friday, July 12 and Sunday, July 14.

Sandpolo will run on Friday and Saturday, seeing world class polo played on the beaches, along with other entertainment, including stunt-riding and charity races.

The annual event is organised by Johnny Wheeler.

Johnny said preparation for the event, which is a staple in the Sandbanks calendar, was ‘going really well’.

“It's the 17th year people continue to enjoy Sandpolo and Sandfest over the second weekend in July,” he said.

“It's a great place to come and socialise, enjoy the sport, meet up with friends and have a fabulous time.”

Speaking on the preparations and his feelings ahead of the weekend, Johnny said: “I think any event organiser wants things to go well and to plan, but there will always be things that are challenges that need to be overcome.

“So, until the site goes live on Friday at 1pm, there's a lot that needs doing and a lot of teamwork required to make sure that every challenge is overcome and we can put on the best event possible.”

Johnny said the weekend promises “a fantastic mix of sport and other entertainment on the spectacular beaches of Sandbanks”.

Around 6,000 people are expected to descend on Sandbanks beach for Sandpolo, with the event well regarded by the polo community and socialites alike.

Boogie on the Beach will return on July 12, including soul, Motown and disco hits, before the closing party on July 13, featuring performances from DJ Spoony, SJ Sam Young and The Kings, among others.

Then, on Sunday, Sandfest will see Dizzee Rascal and a DJ set by Sigma headline the one-day festival.

Organisers are anticipating a sell-out event, with tickets selling fast, so those wishing to buy tickets are encouraged to purchase as soon as possible.
