A CHRISTCHURCH vintage boating service has announced it will celebrate its 90th birthday this July.

Headland Ferries has announced it will commemorate its granite anniversary with Tuckton Tea Gardens and Bodega on July 27 and 28.

Bodega is expected to have its popular pop-up bar return for the event with the tea gardens hosting a barbecue, live music, and children's fairground rides including a bouncy castle.

A spokesperson for Headland Ferries said: "Not only will the group be hosting a big celebration for all to join, but will also be supporting MacMillan Caring Locally charity.

"This is a free, non-ticketed event, taking place on Saturday, July 27th and Sunday, July 28th from 10am to 10pm each day.

"All are welcome to join the festivities and be a part of making new memories for their 90th anniversary."

Headland Ferries started in 1934 with five open-launch passenger ferries that transported passengers around the River Stour.

Later commanded during World War Two, the boats have become a fan-favourite day-out for residents and tourists.

River cruises will be available during celebrations with hire boats also to be made free for those who want to travel at a more leisurely pace.
