New wildlife learning space at Ringwood Junior School

The area, now said to be a hit among both pupils and wildlife, was upgraded using a grant from the Wessex Water Foundation Environment Fund via Dorset Community Foundation and funds from Ringwood Town Council.

The former leaking pond and disarrayed landscape were replaced by an outdoor learning space, where students can learn about pond habitats during lessons and afterschool clubs.

The school’s community, including staff and parents, volunteered their time and effort towards revitalising the area, reworking the pond, replacing dilapidated fencing, constructing learning zones and establishing wildlife habitats.

The pond has since seen thriving wildlife, witnessing frogs and newts only days after renovation.

Sally-Ann Evans, the school’s headteacher, expressed her gratitude for the support the school received.

She said: "We’re very grateful for the grants from the Wessex Water Foundation and Ringwood Town Council, and the hard work of our school community, to create a wonderful nature area that not only enhances our children’s learning experiences, but also provides important habitats for wildlife."
