A FAMILY business dedicated to serving authentic Indian cuisine has successfully brought the flavours of their homeland to the Westbourne community.

Dilli Haat, in Seamoor Road, which has been serving its loyal customers since 2017 is the Daily Echo’s Trader of the Week.

Garima and Arun Sharma created Dilli Haat after years of feeling disheartened by the lack of ‘authentic Indian food’ in Bournemouth.

The married couple moved to the area from India in 2006 and decided to take the jump seven years ago by opening their own restaurant.

Arun said Dilli Haat was born after the pair came across a former Indian takeaway for sale.

They transformed the unit into a cosy space serving home cooked Indian food. “It has been a very rewarding journey,” said Arun.

He added: “It has been very well received by the community.

“Now we realise how lucky we are to be in Westbourne.”

Garima said they are lucky to have loyal customers, including one man who they have nicknamed Grandad.

She said the business launched a soft opening in 2017, just for friends and family, but their new neighbour was so eager to try their food he insisted on being their friend.

The pair said their journey has been fuelled by hard work and dedication as Arun continued to work a full-time job, as well as running the business with Garima, until 2021.

As Dilli Haat has grown in popularity and success the restaurant introduced ‘quick set meals’ for lunchtime.

They also offer catering services including kebabs, chaat, curries, breads and desserts.

Dilli Haat shared on social media: “We invite you to join us in supporting this remarkable small family business.

“By dining at Dilli Haat, you’re not just enjoying an incredible meal, you’re becoming a part of Garima and Arun’s dream, a dream that started from a deep yearning for the taste of home.”

Dilli Haat is located at 33 Seamoor Road in Westbourne.
