AN ICONIC fish and chip shop known for its quirky menu has closed its doors for good after 25 years.

The closure of Captain Cod has been confirmed after loyal customers began questioning the whereabouts of their favourite chippy.

The takeaway on Stour Road in Christchurch officially shut its doors on June 20 after its lease ended and a change of circumstances for the owner.

It is understood that new owners have taken over the unit but are planning a complete revamp and new name.

Captain Cod became known throughout lockdown for the chip shop that would batter anything.

Owner, Vicky Webster, said no foods were off limits as she battered brussels sprouts, cheese burgers and even a chip butty.

The unique menu change was launched after Vicky found the separation from customers during lockdown difficult and wanted to put smiles on their faces.
