ONE person was rescued from a fire in the early hours of the morning.

Firefighters rushed to the scene of the blaze in Jewell Road, Townsend, at 1.07am on Saturday, July 13.

The fire involved a first floor residential flat above a One Stop convenience store.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the flat was alight when crews arrived on the scene.

One person was rescued from the first floor of the building.

Crews administered casualty care until the ambulance service were in attendance.

At the height of the incident, approximately 25 firefighters were in attendance.

Six fire engines attended the scene from Springbourne, Redhill, Christchurch, Poole, Hamworthy and Westbourne) along with the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) from Westbourne.

Breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets and one main line to extinguish the fire.

All resources left by 4.50am and a crew has attended for reinspection this morning. It is understood the One Stop store was due a refurbishment soon but workers are not able to access the building until the fire service carries out a reinspection.

The Daily Echo understands a fence next to the building was set on fire just last week.
