Soaring vocals, sharp, sassy dance routines, multiple costume changes and hundreds upon hundreds of sequins. This is not just any end of term school show - this is the Leaf Studio 2024 Showcase.

Aimed specifically at honing the skills of budding young performers and athletes, the results of the Leaf Studio industry training programme were clear to see as the students took to the stage of Lighthouse, Poole for this year's production, Rhythm is Gonna Get You.

From the opening number, the stage is set for an ultra high energy evening of the utmost professionalism. The super appreciative audience is whipped through a varied range of entertainment, from classic Fosse jazz, musical theatre, classical ballet and sharp commercial choreography, showcasing every element of the students' training.

The diverse programme includes tributes to iconic entertainers such as Dick Van Dyke, Audrey Hepburn, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley and the Beatles, alongside excerpts from favourite musicals – Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady and Beetlejuice to name a few, with the Kinky Boots section a real highlight.

Despite an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction, the show went on, with the lead admirably refusing to have his performance hampered by the boot that refused to zip up.

The vocal talents on display are outstanding – I was particularly blown away by the young lady who effortlessly belted out the Chaka Kahn classic I'm Every Woman. Pure class.

These kids just ooze talent, confidence and hunger, with each and every one taking complete ownership of the stage. Their love for what they do spilled over into the auditorium, with the crowd whooping their approval throughout.

The energy levels were off the scale for the entire performance – even though I, as an audience member, felt exhausted just watching.

It's easy to forget these are just youngsters, at the start of their training, but so many of them are at the cusp of a promising future.

Polished, professional, pure entertainment.
