HEAVY rain could bring disruption to parts of Dorset, the Met Office has warned.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for the west and north of the county between 8am and midnight on Monday, July 15.

Areas that could be affected include Weymouth, Dorchester, Gillingham and Sturminster Newton.

Around 15 to 20mm of rainfall could be expected in less than an hour with as much as 30 to 40mm in three hours.

Some of the heavy rain could be accompanied by lightning.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Outbreaks of rain, some heavy and thundery, will spread steadily north across the area during Monday.

“Some torrential downpours are likely in places with 15 to 20 mm falling in less than an hour and as much as 30 to 40 mm in 3 hours.

“This is likely to lead to localised flooding, slower travel times and a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded.”

In terms of what to expect, the Met Office says there is a ‘slight chance’ of power cuts and loss of services.

Homes and businesses could be flooded, meanwhile, flooding could also lead to delays or cancellations of train and bus services.
