A HAUL of classic cars will go under the hammer next month.

Sherborne-based Charterhouse Auctioneers will sell without reserve “the star of the show” a 1933 Alvis Silver Eagle Mayfair DHC.

Family owned from new, it was bought as a chassis from Alvis and then fitted with a coach built body from the Mayfair Carriage Company.

It cost £1,000 – at a time when you could buy an Austin 7 Ruby for £112.

Also from the estate, there are a Bristol 401, Alvis 12/50 TJ DHC also family owned from new, Riley 9 Tourer, Triumph TR3 & TR4, Land Rover Series IIA, Morris Traveller, other cars, vintage tractors, farm bygones and even a Victorian shepherd’s hut.

“It will be like a proper old country house auction, only with vehicles and on a farm,” said auctioneer Richard Bromell.

The vehicles will be sold on site near Bridport on Wednesday, August 7, and full details are available on charterhouse-auction.com.

Richard Bromell and the Charterhouse team can be contacted for specialist advice and valuations at The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne, 01935 812277 or via rb@charterhouse-auction.com.
