Bournemouth and Poole have been ranked among the 50 worst seaside towns in the UK for 2024 according to Which?

The consumer champion surveyed over 4,700 people about their experiences of UK seaside towns in the last year to create the list.

Categories that were scored out of five included beaches, tourist attractions, value for money and more.

Overall, there were 126 locations scored, with Bournemouth coming in 79th place and Poole featuring in 88th position.

How did Bournemouth and Poole score on the ranking?

Overall, Bournemouth had an audience score of 64%, whilst Poole was slightly lower at 62%.

Compared to the 2023 list, this was down from 69% for Bournemouth and 70% for Poole.

Bournemouth scored well in some categories, including a 4/5 in beaches, whilst earning a 3/5 score with seafront/pier, tourist attractions, scenery and shopping.

However, it did have a 2/5 rating in some areas such as peace & quiet, value for money, parking and food & drink.

In comparison, Poole also earned a 4/5 for beaches and 3/5 for value for money, seafront/pier, tourist attractions, scenery, food & drink, peace & quiet and shopping.

On the lower end of the categories, it only scored 2/5 for parking.

Meanwhile, in terms of an average price for a hotel room for a night, Bournemouth was ÂŁ107 whilst Poole was ÂŁ121.



Bamburgh in Northumberland took the top spot with an impressive overall score of 86%, retaining its title from last year.

At the other end of the table, Bangor, Gwynedd took last place with a destination score of 42%, followed by Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire with a score of 46%.

“While you may have your own favourite coastal spot, this year’s survey shows that it’s worth looking beyond the most famous resorts this summer, to the lesser-visited hidden gems  in every corner of the UK.”
