MOREBUS spends ‘a significant amount of money’ on repairing damage to buses caused by people throwing rocks at the vehicles.

The operator has often faced issues with damaged buses in Turlin Moor as a result of ‘youths’ throwing rocks and objects at them.

It sometimes needs to suspend services through the area, and was forced to cancel its eight and nine routes on Wednesday, July 17.

General manager of Morebus, Richard Wade, said: “Morebus reports every incident of vandalism or attempted vandalism to the police at the time, in order that officers can attend as an emergency.

“Not least because of the threat to the safety of those on board including the driver, and other road users if the driver is affected and this affects their control of the vehicle.

“If officers are able to attend, we will not divert services but - to prevent ongoing issues - this sometimes can be necessary.

“We also ensure that BCP Council's Transport Safety Officers are made aware promptly even when not in the vicinity at the time, in order that they can target future patrols accordingly.

“A significant amount of money is spent each year on glass replacement and this money could be invested in far more useful areas.”
