OFTSED has said it is satisfied with a nursery’s safeguarding after a child fell into a lake while on an outing.
A pupil at Rock a Tots in Canford Cliffs Road, Poole “tripped while walking over a bridge” in Compton Acres and fell into the water.
The child did not sustain any injuries and was recovered “quickly”, according to the nursery’s director Ray Gerson.
Ofsted was notified about the incident that happened on May 24 and carried out statutory checks on the nursery.
Following routine checks, the regulator concluded it was “satisfied the provider has met the safeguarding and welfare actions raised”.
On the incident, Mr Gerson said: “I can confirm during a walk within the beautiful gardens of Compton Acres there was an accident where a child had tripped whilst walking over a bridge and fell against the wooden spindle, unfortunately this broke allowing the child to fall through into the water.
“The child was quickly recovered from the water and didn’t sustain any injury.
“This incident happened on May 24. Compton Acres is a paid entry attraction open to the public which is well maintained.
“We have already been pro-active with our parents; they have already attended a meeting to discuss the issue and Ofsted.
“I can confirm all the children are still attending the setting.”
Rock A Tots notified Ofsted about the “incident that took place during an outing” on June 3 and within the statutory framework for a “significant event”, according to the report.
Concluding, the report said: “We found the provider had reviewed and improved their knowledge of local safeguarding procedures.
“New processes are in place to support and monitor the practice of all staff. A robust risk assessment for outings is now in place.
“The provider has improved the systems for gathering information about children's pre-existing injuries and ensured that all staff have a thorough understanding of their responsibilities in keeping information about children who attend the nursery confidential.
“We are satisfied the provider has met the safeguarding and welfare actions raised.”
Rock A Tots, rated good overall by Ofsted, had 56 pupils registered at its last thorough investigation in October 2023 ranging between zero and three years old.
