Swanage Carnival is back for 2024 and is set to once again showcase a wide variety of games, competitions and entertainment.

Taking place from Saturday, July 27 to Saturday, August 3 various activities will be occurring around the town.

Swanage Carnival has been recognised as one of the UK's largest charitable events, attracting an estimated 250,000 visitors each year.

On their website, it says: "Our mission is to raise funds for local charities and good causes. We do this by providing 8 days of fun-filled entertainment for residents and visitors of all ages."

What is the theme for Swanage Carnival 2024?

This year, the theme of the carnival is ‘Jurassic Rocks’ to highlight the beauty of the Dorset coast and what it is best known for.

What activities will be on at Swanage Carnival 2024?

To reflect the theme for this year's carnival a number of dino events and activities will be taking place.

This will include an Interactive Dinosaur show, Dinosaur Derby and a special appearance from ‘Rexy’ the Dinosaur from the film Night at the Museum 2.

Other activities will comprise a paddle boarding competition, silent disco, BMX Stunt Show, acrobat shows and arena displays.

What time does the procession start for Swanage Carnival 2024?

The two-mile-long carnival procession will take place at 3pm on Sunday, July 28.

When will the fireworks displays take place?

There will be three evenings of fireworks displays for Swanage Carnival 2024, with the first one taking place at 9.45pm on Saturday, July 27 down by the seafront.

After that, the two other displays will occur at the same time at the seafront on Wednesday, July 31 and Saturday, August 3.

Where will Swanage Carnival 2024 take place?

The carnival will take place all around the town, with specific locations being named in the programme.

Swanage Carnival 2024 road closures

Due to specific events taking place as part of the carnival, some road closures will be required which can be seen on the Swanage Carnival website here.

These include:

  • 7am July 26 to 11.59pm on August 3 - eastern part of Walrond Road, Swanage from the junction with Shore Road to the junction with De Moulham Road
  • July 27 to August 3 - Shore Road
  • 7am to 12pm on July 27 - part of Shore Road between Clifton Road and Victoria Avenue and Victoria Avenue between Shore Road and De Moulham Road
  • 8.30pm to 11pm on July 27, July 31 and August 3 - part of Shore Road between Clifton Road and Victoria Avenue and Victoria Avenue between Shore Road and De Moulham Road
