A COVETED classic British sports car is going up for auction this week and is already attracting a lot of attention.

The 1968 Jaguar E Type 2+2 series will be going under the hammer at South Western Vehicle Auctions (SWVA) on Thursday, July 25.

Desired by petrol heads globally, the E-Type is widely recognised as being one of the most iconic, elegantly styled cars in the world.

Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the Italian supercar maker, once described the E-Type as “the most beautiful car ever made”.

Darren Loveys, SWVA's managing director and chief auctioneer said: "The Jaguar E-Type 2 series is very collectible, especially the right-hand drive models as so many were exported to the USA.

“It’s one of the most famous British cars ever made and the 1968 model we have for auction has had just four owners from new, comes in a rarely seen opalescent gunmetal metallic finish and is shown in 'original feel' condition with a well-kept exterior and interior.

“Our guide price is £40,000 - £45,000 but it could well exceed this if there is competitive bidding on the day."

The classic and vintage car auction takes place at SWVA's auction hall in Blackhill Road on the Holton Heath Trading Park starting at 10am.

The catalogue includes 93 lots which include a 1975 Ford Capri 1600 XL, a super rare 1962 Jaguar MKII 3.4 manual with overdrive, a 1958 Riley, a 1932 Austin Seven Special and a 1947 Armstrong Siddeley Lancaster to name but a few.
