NEW council leader Millie Earl has announced her new cabinet.
BCP’s councillors elected the 33-year-old Liberal Democrat as the authority’s fifth leader in five years at an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday evening, July 23.
Cllr Earl, the former deputy leader, announced some changes to the top team who will make some of the most important decisions over the next two years.
The changes include:
Millie Earl, leader of BCP Council.
Mike Cox, deputy leader and cabinet member for finance.
Rich Herrett, cabinet member for destination, leisure and commercial operations
Sandra Moore, cabinet member for communities and partnerships
The following have kept their roles:
David Brown, cabinet member for health and wellbeing
Richard Burton, cabinet member for children, young people, education and skills.
Jeff Hanna, cabinet member for transformation, resources and governance.
Andy Martin, cabinet member for culture, customer and communications.
Andy Hadley, cabinet member for climate response, environment and energy
Kieron Wilson, cabinet member for housing and regulatory services
Margaret Phipps, lead member for local plan delivery
Mark Howell, lead member for regeneration projects
Simon McCormack, lead member for homelessness and cost of living crisis.
Meanwhile, former leader Vikki Slade – who was elected as MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole – will sit on the backbenches simply as ward councillor from Broadstone.
On her appointment, the new leader said: "The enormity of this role is not lost on me: there is opportunity ahead for this council but also challenges.
"I am so proud to be a member of the Three Towns Alliances that recognises the individuality and identity of each of our towns and ensures we recognise the distinctiveness of our communities.
"And we have some key projects in the pipelines to empower our communities and deliver that positive change: the ward improvement fund, the town centre fund, the residents' card, a governments review to put decision making back into the hands of local communities so that they can thrive."
