A FUNDRAISER has been set up for a schoolboy who was left in life-threatening condition after being struck by a car on his way to school.
Archie Evans, 14, was cycling on Huntick Road in Lytchett Matravers at 7.44am on June 19 when he was involved in a collision with a white Volkswagen Up.
Archie was rushed to Southampton General Hospital with life-threatening injuries and has remained in a serious condition since.
Hanna Wellman, a parent at Archie’s school, said members of the community came together following the accident to find a way to help the family.
“A group of us set up a WhatsApp group and discussed what we could do to make this awful situation easier,” said Hanna.
“I suggested doing a Go Fund Me to alleviate the financial pressures because they still have bills they have to pay and travel costs to Southampton.”
She added: “Archie, a local boy living in the Lytchett community, is a popular boy, who is kind, caring, very funny and high spirited.
“Archie enjoys spending time with his family, loves his dog, and loves to be surrounded by his friends.
“Archie also loves riding his bike and spending time playing video games with his friends.
“Since hearing the tragic news about Archie, it is clear to see, that Archie is highly thought of by his teachers, friends and all those he meets.”
The Go Fund Me titled ‘Donate to support Archie and his family’ has surpassed its initial target of £1,000 and has so far raised over £4,000.
Archie currently remains in the paediatric intensive care unit and is heavily sedated in hospital after suffering brain damage and multiple broken bones from the accident.
Archie’s mother, Georgina Watt, has since promoted the importance of wearing bicycle helmets correctly, as she believes this may have been one of the factors that saved his life.
Going forward Archie’s family will be looking into raising awareness of road safety in the area.
Georgina said in a statement that the family are “incredibly grateful and overwhelmed” by the support and money raised.
She continues to be away from her other children while being with Archie and the funds are assisting travel as well as items Archie may need in his recovery.
