FRAUDULENT QR codes have been spotted across Bournemouth car parks amid scams on payment metres.
BCP Council and Bournemouth police are again warning the public after the fake payments are on the rise.
The fake QR codes are placed over legitimate payment codes to trick customers and force them into entering bank details on a scam website.
The fraudulent codes have been found in Highcliffe, Hengistbury Head, Sandbanks, Branksome Dean, Branksome Chine and Bournemouth town centre.
BCP Council posted on social media: “Once scanned, these QR codes take you to a fraudulent website, where there may be a danger of money being taken from your account.
“Please do not scan any suspicious looking QR codes on car parking meters and instead use one of our three parking apps to pay; PayByPhone, RingGo or JustPark.”
Bournemouth police also posted: “Boscombe Neighbourhood Policing Team would like members of the public to be aware of the rise in fraudulent payment QR codes being placed over the top of legitimate payment QR codes on car park payment metres in & around the BCP council area.”
It added: “If you do find any of these fraudulent stickers, please report to Dorset Police either online or by using 101. Alternatively, please report to BCP council.”
