A NURSERY is “deeply disappointed” after Ofsted raised safeguarding concerns in a recent report.
Tops Day Nursery, on Denmark Lane in Poole, was told to improve by the education watchdog after concerns were reported about a member of staff on May 9.
Following an inspection on June 13, Ofsted found the nursery was not meeting its requirements and a welfare notice was served.
Tops Day Nursery Poole had to ensure the designated safeguarding lead liaises with external agencies without delay to share information that helps keep children safe.
Staff also had to improve its safeguarding procedures so that team members understood circumstances in children’s lives that may put them at risk of harm.
Support staff were instructed to set clear expectations of children’s behaviour to help them manage and understand the consequences of their actions.
Ofsted followed this up with regulatory phone calls and on July 1 found the nursery had reviewed and improved its safeguarding procedures which were now robust.
“We are satisfied the provider has met the safeguarding and welfare actions raised,” the report said.
Diane Wycherley, chief operating officer said: “We are deeply disappointed by the recent Ofsted report for Tops Poole.
“The safety and well-being of the children in our care are our highest priorities, and we take these findings very seriously.
“Shaye, our new senior manager with over 15 years of experience at Tops, is spearheading our efforts with the full support of our dedicated team and additional resources and we are confident that she is the right person to lead our nursery forward.
“We have promptly addressed the required actions set by Ofsted and would like to confirm that our nursery is open and Ofsted has acknowledged our efforts positively.
“We have clear plans in place for embedding the training support that has been provided to the setting and have developed a robust and detailed action plan to support swift progress.
“We are working in partnership with the local authority and Ofsted to ensure effective improvements.
“We are committed to working towards demonstrating significant progress at our next inspection and look forward to welcoming Ofsted back to show the progress made.
“We understand the significance of this Ofsted report and we are committed to making the necessary changes to ensure all children receive the best start in their early years’ education.”
