POLICE in Poole have reiterated warnings over fake QR codes placed in car parks to trick customers into entering bank details on a scam website.
The Poole neighbourhood policing team echoed the warning of BCP Council and colleagues across the conurbation for people to look out for the fake codes.
These codes have been placed on car park payment signs, and, when scanned, redirect people to a website.
Fraudsters are then using these codes to phish for information for financial gain, with the websites posing as a method of payment for the car park.
The fake codes have been spotted on parking metres in Sandbanks, Branksome Dene, Branksome Chine, Highcliffe and Bournemouth town centre car parks.
However, residents should not scan these QR codes if they see them and should pay through the legitimate payment methods displayed.
This includes PayByPhone, RingGo and JustPark.
If you spot the fraudulent codes, contact the council or the police by calling 101.
