A COLLECTION of 50 vintage car mascots is being sold by a Dorset auctioneer in September.
The mascots have been amassed by a Somerset collector over many years and will by auctioned by Sherborne-based Charterhouse on September 25.
Many are comical or amusing such a one on the form of Mr Toad and some were produced by the motoring manufacturers such as the famous Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy.
Most are chrome plated or made in bronze, but there are also glass mascots from Lalique. Estimates in the collection range from £100 to over £1,000.
Auctioneer Richard Bromwell said: “The market for enamel signs, car mascots and automobilia remains strong with buyers keen to add to their collections.
“This combined with their decorative appeal results in these items, once relegated to the garage or barn, now take pride of place in the house or, as in the case with mascots, on the desk.”
Richard Bromell and the Charterhouse team can be contacted for specialist advice and valuations on car mascots, enamel signs and automobilia at The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne, 01935 812277 or via rb@charterhouse-auction.com.
