THE new Bournemouth East MP has heralded his government’s plans for a new public energy company.

Tom Hayes MP said the plans would help the nation become energy efficient while saving families in the area money.

The Labour government announced its plans last week, which had been a manifesto promise in the run up to the general election.

Clean power projects, including wind farms, will be managed and operated by the new company.

The new government has also pledged to invest in the industries of the future, aiming to create 650,000 jobs across the country by 2030.

The new company will be paid for by a windfall tax on oil and gas giants.

Tom Hayes, Labour MP for Bournemouth East, said: “Great British Energy will make our country energy independent, kick tyrants like Putin to the curb, tackle climate change, and save Bournemouth families money.

“People in this country should own and benefit from our natural resources, and Great British Energy is the first step to ending the UK’s energy insecurity.”
