THE coastguard was called to reports of someone in difficulty in the sea near Bournemouth Pier that turned out to be a false alarm.
Rescue teams responded to reports at around 6pm last night, July 30.
Teams from Poole, Southbourne and the helicopter from Lee-on-Solent were called to the scene to conduct searches.
However, having conducted searches at the scene, the search was called off as a false alarm with good intent.
A spokesperson for the coastguard said: “HM Coastguard has been conducting searches in the Bournemouth Pier area following reports of someone possibly in difficulty in the water.
“Alerted at around 6pm, Coastguard Rescue Teams from Poole and Southbourne and the coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-Solent have been sent to the scene.”
The spokesperson confirmed shortly after 7.30pm that the incident had been confirmed as a false alarm with good intent.
