A TWO-YEAR-OLD was caught climbing a scaffolding structure at a nursery in Corfe Mullen.
A member of the public, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the child was seen climbing the structure by workmen at Tops Day Nursery in Corfe Mullen.
Following the incident on June 21, a complaint was made to Ofsted which prompted the education watchdog to carry out an inspection.
A welfare requirements notice was then issued to ensure the nursery acted by July 9.
The report said the nursery must: “implement a rigorous system for risk assessment to ensure hazards are identified and managed effectively and promptly so that children are not exposed to this.
“Ensure staff are deployed at all times to meet children’s needs and ensure the effective supervision of children to keep them safe.”
A further visit was made on July 16 where inspectors found the nursery had met the safeguarding and actions.
Tops Day Nursery Poole were also told to improve by Ofsted after concerns were raised about a member of staff on May 9.
Staff improved their safeguarding procedures and Ofsted were later satisfied that all improvements had been met.
Ofsted reports show that Tops Day Nursery Christchurch had an incident reported on January 4 which prompted improvements in its medicine procedure.
“The provider had reviewed their medicine policy and delivered staff training on the effective and safe administration of medication,” the report said.
Ofsted were satisfied with the changes.
Diane Wycherley, chief operating officer at Tops Day Nurseries said: “All nursery settings are required to notify Ofsted of certain events/activities and it is Ofsted’s decision whether they would like to take action to investigate further or follow up beyond measures a setting has already taken.
“I can confirm there was an incident at Corfe in relation to the scaffolding on the building and I’d like to reassure you that everyone is safe and unharmed.
“We have reviewed our processes and conducted an extensive investigation to get to the root of the incident.
“We have shown the arrangements to Ofsted, who are satisfied the setting is safe and effective processes are in place.
“I can confirm for the notification for Christchurch there was no action taken by Ofsted and they were in support of the actions taken by Tops”.
Tops Day Nurseries have 12 settings across Dorset with most rated ‘good’ by Ofsted.
