A PUB taken over by a group of neighbours aiming to return it to a community hub is Pub of the Week.

Located in Swanage, The Globe Inn is a traditional 19th-century Dorset inn, with its tenancy recently acquired by a group of nearby residents.

The seven people who took over the venue lived next to the pub and wanted to see it transformed into a 'clean, cosy and welcoming environment.'

One of the tenants, Sharon Patterson, said: "It's quite unusual for a group to take over a pub, but we were interested in returning it to a comfortable community pub for everyone.

"We want to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, open with a selection of good quality products."

The Globe Inn has been completely refurbished and redecorated to "open the space up a bit".

Sharon said: "It was previously quite a dark space, but we have lightened it up and put in some more modern eclectic furniture to make the inside feel fresher.

The team has started the restoration of the 'beautiful' pub garden.

"We have lots of outdoor space. The garden gets sun really late in the evening, so it is a nice little sun trap.

"We are a great pub for families, and we are dog friendly."

The Globe Inn has a 'wide selection of drinks' including a plethora of lager, cider and ale, including Pravha, Staropramen, Madri, Cruzcampo, Thatchers Gold and Haze, Aspall's Cyder, Guinness and Landlord and Doom Bar keg ales.

Sharon said: "We have really focussed on having a good wine selection, which is something I have a particular interest in."

While the new tenants settle in, The Globe won't be serving hot food. However, they have a 'great selection of quality snacks.'

The pub is a popular sporting venue. They have Sky Sports on HD screens at the bar and two screens in the garden.

There is a pool table and a dart board inside the venue, and local teams come along to play in their leagues.

The pub is putting on a live DJ in the garden on Sunday's upcoming bank holiday. Sharon also said they plan to put on regular quiz nights within the coming months.
