CRIMINALS jailed in July include a murderer who chopped up a man’s body and left it around Bournemouth, a man who groomed and abused a child and a woman who killed a cyclist with her car.

Pair jailed after 'ferocious' killing in Boscombe

Benjamin Atkins murdered lodger Simon Shotton during a fight last summer before dismembering his body and discarding it around Boscombe.

His girlfriend, Debbie Pereira, allowed Atkins to dismember the body and took “active steps” to help him dispose of it.

To this day, only fragments of the skull have been recovered.

Atkins, 49 and previously of Aylesbury Road, was jailed for a minimum term of 19 years.

Pereira, 39 and previously of Aylesbury Road, was jailed for four years.

Richard Toomer

Victim of man who groomed her has 'constant nightmares' about abuse

Richard Toomer sexually abused a young teenager over two years which left her suicidal.

The victim said in a statement to the court that it took her 20 years to acknowledge the abuse and realise that it was not her fault.

It was said that Toomer performed sex acts in front of the girl during the historic abuse before making her carry out sexual acts on him.

Toomer, 48 and of Linden Road, West Parley, was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Jessica Berry

Woman jailed after killing cyclist in hit-and-run crash

Jessica Berry hit a 40-year-old cyclist with her car on Julians Road in Wimborne before fleeing the scene.

The cyclist, James Raeburn, was sadly pronounced dead at the time of the incident.

Members of the public noticed Berry’s damaged red Vauxhall Corsa parked in Jubilee Road in Corfe Mullen before coming across the scene of the crash, and phone the police.

The defendant was found to be over double the legal drink drive limit and had cannabis in her system.

Berry, 26 and of Corfe Mullen, was sentenced to eight years and eight months in prison and was banned from driving for five years, following her release from custody.

Barry Mattingley

Man tried to stab victim in back of police car after plotting to kill him

Barry Mattingley, 70, told police he “wished he was on a murder charge” after attempting to stab a man in his home and in the back of a police car.

The defendant let himself into the man’s flat and threatened him over the victim allegedly spreading rumours about him.

The victim fled to a nearby corner shop and phoned the police, later seeking refuge in the back of a police car.

However, once the defendant spotted him, he opened the car door and tried to stab him before officers intervened.

Later that day, Mattingley told officers: “I wish I was sat here on a murder charge; I wish I had stabbed him.”

He was sentenced to six years in prison.

Samuel James Watkins

Man jailed after fracturing a woman's skull at a hotel in Bournemouth

Samuel James Watkins strangled a woman and fractured her skull before stealing her car and fleeing the scene.

The pair were staying at the Royal Bath Hotel in Bournemouth when they began to argue.

Watkins punched the woman in the head and strangled her twice.

He then took her car keys and drove away before the ambulance service and police arrived at the hotel.

Watkins, 35 and of Surrey, was jailed for three years and 11 months as well as issued a restraining order for six years.
