A MAN who was found on the Wessex Way has been taken to hospital. 

The man was found on the A338 close to the footbridge at Shelbourne Road, Bournemouth, late on Saturday night, August 3. 

Drivers reported having to come to a sudden standstill on the dual carriageway as emergency services attended to the man. 

He suffered injuries that are believed to be serious, according to the police. 

Dorset Police’s spokesman said it would not be appropriate to go into detail about his injuries. 

He said: “We received a report at 10.28pm on Saturday 3 August 2024 of a man in need of medical attention on the Wessex Way, near to the footbridge from Shelbourne Road in Bournemouth. 

“Officers attended and road closures were put in place as the ambulance service attended and the man was taken to hospital for injuries that were believed to be serious. 

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and the man’s family has been informed.” 

South Western Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 10.22pm on Saturday, August 3 to an incident in Bournemouth.

"We sent three double-crewed land ambulances, an air ambulance, a critical care car and an operations officer to the scene.

"We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.”
