THE BRITANNIA in Parkstone offers thirst-quenching cocktails and bottomless crispy roast potatoes - a Sunday roast that might just be the best in Dorset.
My friend Lidia and I were invited to indulge in a Sunday roast at one of Heartwood Collections' restaurants in Dorset.
As we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly and attentive staff who showed us to our table outside so we could bask in the sunlight while enjoying our lunch.
For starters, I went for the cheese soufflé and my friend chose the baguette with a trio of dips.
The soufflé was perfectly light for a starter but rich with cheddar flavour and just the right amount of gooey-ness for a soufflé.
Lidia said: “I like how there was a different selection of dips to try and it wasn’t too filling so we could enjoy our mains more.”
Then it was time to indulge in the highly anticipated Sunday roasts which came with a large selection of delicious trimmings.
I chose the slow-cooked pork and apricot roulade whereas Lidia chose the grass-fed British beef rump.
Both roasts were served with mouth-watering cauliflower cheese, roasted seasonal vegetables, savoy cabbage, and bottomless roast potatoes, finished off with a Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
The roast pork dish exceeded my expectations and I’d be confident in saying it was one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever had (sorry dad).
Lidia thought the same.
She said: “The cauliflower cheese was creamy and a perfect portion, I also loved how you could ask for more roast potatoes, but I was already full from the dinner on my plate to ask for any more but it's a great idea."
To finish off the three-course meal, I chose the Basque cheesecake with macerated strawberries and blueberries drizzled with a strawberry coulis.
We decided to share this and we’re glad we did.
The portion was perfectly sized for two people and the cheesecake was a great way to finish off the meal as it was light and flavoursome.
We also decided to quench our thirst with a few refreshing cocktails in the summery weather.
I went for the classic pornstar martini and a bramble cocktail.
Lidia chose an elderflower and apricot spritz and a Dark and Stormy, as recommended by our lovely waiter.
Overall, this restaurant provided the perfect atmosphere for a Sunday lunch and offered a range of meals and friendly customer service and we will definitely be back.
