THE inquest into the death of a man who was dismembered by his killer has been closed after his murderer was jailed.

At a hearing at Bournemouth town hall, area coroner for Dorset, Brendan Allen, closed the inquest into the death of Simon James Shotton.

As reported, Benjamin Atkins was convicted by a jury for the murder of the 49-year-old, after his severed remains were found discarded across Boscombe last summer.

Atkins was sentenced to life in prison, having previously pleaded guilty to charges of perverting the course of justice, and preventing the burial of a corpse.

He was tried alongside co-defendant Debbie Pereira, who was found not guilty of murder.

She was sentenced to four years in prison, after she was found guilty of perverting the course of justice and admitting a charge of preventing the burial of a corpse, which she had initially denied.

At the inquest hearing at the town hall, Mr Allen said that following the trial, and having reviewed the criminal proceedings, he was satisfied that there was no sufficient reason to continue the inquest.

He told the court: “I will not be continuing the coronial investigation touching on the death of Mr Simon James Shotton.”
