A POPULAR beauty spot in Brockenhurst was cordoned off by police after safety fears.
Visitors looking to soak up the sun were surprised when a large cordon had surrounded a section of the stream in Balmer Lawn.
A spokesman for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: “Police were in the area responding to community concerns relating to the safety of horses passing through.
"A cordon was put in place near the Balmer Lawn, and a number of local officers worked to clear the ground and direct the passage of the animals to ensure their welfare.
"There were a number of items present at the site, including nails and broken glass, which have been removed by officers.
"If you have any concerns or information connected to this incident, please contact the police in the first instance on 101."
The cordon remains in place at the stream.
