TRAVELLERS have set up an unauthorised encampment at a park in Christchurch

The convoy arrived on Sunday afternoon, August 11 at Watermans Park off Dorset Road behind the Premier Inn.

Police officers were called to the park on the afternoon and a spokesman for Dorset Police said officers will take “appropriate further action if required".

One Christchurch resident said he saw the group break the gates of the park on entry.

He said: “Dorset Police received a report at around 3pm on Sunday 11 August 2024 of an unauthorised encampment at Watermans Park in Christchurch.

“Officers have attended the site and are liaising with those present as well as the local authority.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and work with our local partners and will take appropriate further action if required.”

BCP Council added: "We are aware that an encampment has formed at Watermans Park, Christchurch.

“Our staff have attended the site and carried out the statutory welfare and educational needs assessments.”
