NO ARRESTS have been made after a ‘suspicious’ fire in which a man had to smash his way out of the building.

Emergency services were called to Jewell Road in Bournemouth after reports of a fire in a flat above the One Stop on July 13.

22-year-old, Jacob Jessopp, who has autism was forced to smash his way out of his burning flat after the fire broke out while he was sleeping.

His sister, Katherine Thorburn, said Jacob had to break the window to escape and wait for the fire service to arrive.

At the height of the incident, 25 firefighters were tackling the blaze with six fire engines.

Police later confirmed that the cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “There is no update at this time.

“Enquiries are ongoing, no arrests made.”

A fundraiser has since been set up for Jacob and his father, Julian Jessopp, who lost all their belongings and their home in the fire.

The Go Fund Me titled ‘home lost in fire’ has raised just over £1,000 which has helped provide the pair with necessities such as clothes, food and toiletries.
