AN NHS nurse turned artistic baker is wowing customers with specialised macarons.

Mummy Macarons, ran by Emma Bubbs and based in Verwood, creates spectacular customised macarons and is the Daily Echo’s Trader of the Week.

Emma launched the business in November 2022 after tackling macarons during her maternity leave.

“On that maternity leave I must have baked hundreds of macarons that had gone wrong but I just kept going,” said Emma.

She said she was stubborn and was determined to master the “finnicky and difficult” dessert.

Emma had previously baked celebration cakes for family and friends but had never considered launching a business.

She said: “During this process I was on maternity leave from my nurse role for the NHS with my daughter.

“Every-time I would bake a batch of macarons my just turned two-year-old son would come bursting into the room with excitement shouting and pointing 'Mummy macaron, Mummy macaron!', and the name was born!”

After building her skills in plain round macarons, Emma began experimenting with personalised designs.

She recently crafted a giant Paw Patrol themed macaron which was her largest character design yet.

“That’s what I love doing, I would love to do more of those

“People don't realize how versatile macarons are, there's so much you can do.”

Mummy Macarons was initially launched as a postal service however, Emma said the local response was huge.

“I thought my main audience would be postals and I’d create a website and post them out every morning but it’s taken off locally, especially in Verwood.

“The community support has been amazing and I have regular customers now.”

She added: “It’s just the biggest form of flattery when people keep coming back.”

Emma continues to work part-time as a nurse but is mainly pursuing her macaron business which works around her two young children.

Mummy Macaron offers personalised boxes which can include stencilled designs, names or hand-painted art.

Different shaped macarons can also be requested with Emma having previously made Christmas wreaths, Halloween ghosts and dinosaurs.

Emma also creates cake size macarons, macaron towers and cube towers however, these are for collection only due to the size and fragility.
